If I was asked “What is responsibility?” for most of my life I would have replied, “It is a burden, a weight on my shoulders.”
But lets take a look at the word. Doesn’t responsibility simply mean “an ability to respond?” How did it get so twisted around in my mind? It’s hard to say, of course. Could have been the fact that I was the oldest child in the family so always felt responsible for my younger siblings. Or it could have been a condition that I incarnated with – having either been irresponsible in a previous lifetime or, as I suspect, overly responsible in a previous lifetime – because that has certainly been my propensity this lifetime.
